Do you think that iPod software is something that is only used by the device itself? Interestingly enough there are several excellent programs for those who would like to make their iPod more functional and also more secure, and which require the use of a PC in the process.

Current iPod software is geared at a few different things, but the best programs are those that make the device even more functional than ever. For example, there are some software packages that serve as a bridge between a PC and an iPod, and which allow the contents of the iPod to be copied to the hard drive, and vice versa. This means that entire libraries of music stored on a PC can now be instantly transferred to the iPod, and that the contents of the iPod can be backed up and safely stored on the PC too.

What this also means is that the hundreds or thousands of files that are used on an iPod will be able to be instantly restored to an entirely new or separate iPod should something happen to the original. It is actually quite significant to consider the value of such an option. For instance, try to remember how many hours you have spent downloading and organizing the music, playlists, videos, photographs, podcasts and games currently sitting on your iPod. What would you do if that device was stolen or damaged beyond repair? Simply using such a software package as that described above would give you a constant backup copy of all your hard work.

Of course, not all iPod software options are designed as utilities and there are some that are meant to create workable files of popular media. For example, there are some options for those who want to convert DVD and video files into formats that can then be transferred to their iPod.
