If you are a teacher, a daycare director, or even a mom, you probably go through basic medical supplies and first aid things in a hurry. You may be constantly running out of bandages, gauze, tape, and antiseptic solutions. If this is the case, it sounds like you could certainly benefit from buying your medical supplies in bulk.

There are several advantages to buying medical supplies in bulk. First off, you’ll always have what you need on hand, and secondly, you’ll save a lot of money. Also, it can be pretty easy to track your bulk medical supplies since everything is likely to come in large boxes. When the box starts to get empty, you’ll know that it’s time to order more supplies.

When you buy supplies in bulk, though, it’s important that you think carefully about what you’re buying and what, exactly, you need. For instance, there are several types of medical supplies that expire, including lots of creams and antibiotic lotions. You don’t want to buy these things in bulk because you’re likely to end up pitching a lot of things out every year; instead, keep just a couple of extra tubes or bottles on hand, and buy a new one each time you finish an old one.

Also, be sure that you’re actually saving money when you buy in bulk; many people assume that buying in bulk automatically means you’ll be saving, but this isn’t always the case. To see if you’re actually going to be saving some cash, calculate the per-unit price of whatever you’re buying by dividing the total price by the number of units. Then compare that price to the per-unit price of the item regularly. If you know that an item is on sale, see if it’s cheaper to buy several small boxes on sale than it is to buy the item in bulk.
